Eyes Down, launched on 15th September 2000 at Manchester's infamous Dry Bar as a weekly Friday. After a couple of venue changes Eyes Down settled on the second Saturday of every month at the 220 capacity Band on the wall venue with 150 years of musical history reverberating through its ageing walls. Predominantly a live jazz and roots venue it previusly played hast to artists such as Tony Allen, Terry Callier, London Electricity, Courtney Pine, Poets of Rhythm, Antiballas, Eddie Palmieri. ACR and Attica Blues.

Here Eyes Down developed an increasingly uncompromising music policy, focusing on individual and often challenging selections taking in Jazz, Cuban, Broken Beat, Hip Hop, Disco, House, Detroit Techno, Folk and Reggae. This led to increasing opportunities to take Eyes Down on the road, including a monthly Eyes Down session at the legendary Plastic People in London

Previous guests at Eyes Down have included I.G. Culture, Waiwan, London Elektricity, Landslide, Recloose, Abdul Forsyth, Moodymann, ?uestlove (The Roots), Dego, Jazzanova, Pepe Bradock, Mark Pritchard, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Charlie Dark and Domu. We also took advantage of the live capabilities of the Band on the Wall to play host to bands such as the Rebirth, RSL, and Reel People.

With the closure of Band on the Wall we have upped and moved again, this time to the even more intimate basement surroundings of the Roadhouse in Manchester on the first Friday of the month. We're taking the change in venue as an opportunity to get back to what Eyes Down's really about. The focus of our nights at the Roadhouse will be forward thinking, good music, not names on flyers or numbers through the door. We'll still be having some guest DJs stopping by, but we'll be booking people that we feel play amazing music rather than those who have the biggest profile. Expect to see a lot more resident sessions as well as a few special guests.
